Why do so many NFL teams get “enamored” with the hot college QB of the day each draft season? It is obvious that to win a championship in the NFL you need a pocket passer with mobility-not a runner that might be able to find an open receiver. Take the Bills and Jets for example. Both drafted questionable pro-style QB’s in 2013 in the 1st or 2nd round and both of those guys are riding the pine while journeyman QB’s run the franchise. What a waste. Why not sign the journeyman to start with, use the high pick for talent at other positions and wait until a franchise type QB is in the draft. You waste money and franchise time by jumping the gun. Who are the QB’s that have won the last 10 Super Bowls? In order, last to first: Brady, Rothloesberger, P. Manning, E. Manning, Rothloesberger, Brees, Rodgers, E. Manning, Flacco, Wilson. See a pattern? Guys who stay in the pocket and go through their progressions before running. With the exception of the Mannings none of these guys were highly touted out of college. Solid scouting departments did their due diligence and found guys that were NFL ready, not over hyped!
