The New York Giants hired Joe Judge as their new Head Coach. At first, I was totally shocked and a bit upset since so many big name coaches were available. On second thought however, I have warmed to the decision. Here’s why:
- He has a great pedigree-Alabama under Nick Saban and the Patriots under Bill Belichick. He was a special teams coach which involves him with all 53 on the roster. He is a tough, no nonsense coach who will be a CEO type. The Giants need that type of guy to instill discipline and a hard nosed style of play.
- He is young and can relate to the young roster
- Many times great Head Coach finds are “Diamonds in the Rough” unknown to many before they are discovered.
The key for Coach Judge will be hiring solid Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, continue the development of the young QB Daniel Jones and resurrecting the run game behind Saqueon Barkely.
LSU defeated Clemson last night 42-25 to win the College Football National Championship. Joe Burrow had a season for the ages at QB-Heisman Trophy, 15-0 season, National Title and record for most TD passes in a season (60). LSU proved that the SEC is the elite conference in college football and that Clemson could not match up with their fire power and defensive speed and execution. Clemson tried to blitz Burrow and he continued to find the open receiver or tuck it and run when no one was open. LSU will be a force to be reckoned with for a while.
Burrow will be the Number 1 pick in the April NFL draft to the Cincinnati Bengals (unless they trade the pick). He will be a solid NFL QB.
